Tamil Nadu NEET UG Counselling 2026: State Clarifies Counselling Process, Existing Admission Rules to Continue

DME Tamil Nadu has clarified that TN NEET UG Counselling 2026 will continue under existing state counselling policy, with no changes despite MCC's new AIQ guidelines on Freeze/Float options, online verification and digital resignation.

Tamil Nadu NEET UG Counselling 2026: The Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DME), Tamil Nadu, has issued an official clarification regarding state's NEET UG counselling process. The clarification comes after Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) introduced several new changes for All India Quota (AIQ) counselling, including Freeze and Float options, online document verification and digital seat resignation.

The Selection Committee has made it clear that Tamil Nadu will continue with its existing state counselling policy for 2026-27 admission cycle. There will be no changes to current Tamil Nadu NEET counselling procedure.

Why Did Tamil Nadu Issue This Clarification?

This clarification has been issued following MCC's revised counselling guidelines for AIQ admissions. The new MCC NEET framework includes

• Freeze and Float options for seat acceptance and upgradation

• Online document verification for Float candidates by allotted colleges

• Online seat resignation through MCC portal

To avoid confusion among students and parents, Tamil Nadu has confirmed that these changes will not alter state's counselling process for this academic year.

Tamil Nadu Already Has Similar Counselling Features

As per Selection Committee, Tamil Nadu has already been following several digital counselling practices.

Document Verification

The state already conducts a centralised document verification process. Candidates upload their certificates during application stage, which are verified by authorities. Physical verification of original documents is carried out only when candidates report to their allotted institution for admission.

Online Seat Resignation

Tamil Nadu has already implemented an online resignation system. Candidates who wish to resign from their allotted seat within the prescribed schedule must do so only through the official counselling portal. Offline resignation requests are not accepted.

Seat Upgradation

The state also allows seat upgradation between Round 1 and Round 2, and again between Round 2 and Round 3. The detailed rules regarding upgradation are already mentioned in the Tamil Nadu NEET UG Counselling 2026 Prospectus.

Tamil Nadu NEET UG Counselling 2026 Policy Remains Unchanged

Selection Committee has confirmed that for 2026-27 academic session, existing counselling policy will continue without any modifications.

Admissions to Government Quota, Management Quota, Minority and NRI seats in MBBS and BDS courses will be conducted strictly as per provisions mentioned in State Prospectus 2026-27 and the relevant Government Orders.

No changes will be introduced this year, Tamil Nadu government stated that any future alignment with national counselling framework will be considered only after evaluating what is best for students. If any new policy is adopted in future academic sessions, candidates will be informed well in advance to ensure a smooth transition.
