India-born gynaecological oncologist Ranjit Manchanda from London's Cancer Research UK Barts Centre has been awarded Infosys Chair in Oncology at AIIMS, New Delhi.

UK-based doctor bags Infosys Chair in Oncology at AIIMS, New Delhi

Ranjit Manchanda is an alumnus of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi. The India-born gynaecological oncologist from London's Cancer Research UK Barts Centre has got the prestigious Infosys Chair in Oncology at AIIMS, New Delhi.

“This award means a lot to me and it is an honour and privilege to have received it. I am excited at the opportunity to work with colleagues at AIIMS across both clinical and academic domains, and bring our institutes together with the common aim to reduce the burden of disease and improve the lives of women affected by gynaecological cancer,” Manchanda said, as reported by Tribune India.

Manchanda's work at Infosys Chair will support the division of Gynaecological Oncology at AIIMS Delhi and will develop the collective working between AIIMS, Barts Health NHS Trust and the Queen Mary University of London.

About Ranjit Manchanda 

He is an acclaimed super-specialist who completed his MBBS and MD from AIIMS in the 1990s and then went to the University College London, UK for PhD in gynaecological oncology. His research spans targeted precision prevention of cancer.

At present, he is a Professor, Gynaecological Oncology at the Wolfson Institute of Population Health at the Queen Mary University of London and a Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist at Barts Health National Health Services Trust. Manchanda is leading several critical research projects including the early detection of ovarian cancer.

His main work includes prevention and management of familial gynaecological cancer, developing genetic testing strategies for cancer diagnosis, developing targeted surgical prevention strategies for ovarian and endometrial cancer, targeted screening and cancer prevention, and population-based germ line testing for risk prediction.
