Punjab's minister urges private institutes to join hands with govt to revive sports culture

Presiding over a sports event, Punjab Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer urged private educational institutes to join hands with the government to revive the sports culture in the state.

AAP government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was giving top priority to promote sports among the youth, he said, as reported by NDTV.

His tweet reads, "There is a need for government and private educational institutions to work together in the field of sports so that sports culture can be further promoted in Punjab. Parents should also connect their children with sports fields."

"Punjab government also launched Olympian Balbir Singh Senior Scholarship Scheme to provide monthly stipend to medal winners. As many as three lakh players competed in recently held sports event – 'Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan' -- and the prize money was instantly transferred into the bank accounts of thousands of players," he added.

Punjab has great potential for water sports. Like rowing, kayaking and canoeing sports, special efforts will be made to promote dragon boat sports in the state, said the minister during the sports event.

These efforts would definitely bring positive results in building a sports environment in Punjab, he said and exhorted sportspersons to work hard to make Punjab the number one state in sports.
