Many LGBT groups of various educational institutes including IITs, IIMs, NITs, IISERs have written open letters to Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and urged him to take cognisance of the status of LGBTQIA persons and recognise the right to marry and form a family irrespective of their class, caste, gender, sexuality and others in line with Article 14 of the Indian Constitution.

Sweekar - The Rainbow Parents - a support group of parents of Indian children who identify as members of the LGBTQIA community - also wrote to him on Tuesday to 'consider the plea for marriage equality'.

In its letter to the chief justice, the group said: "We desire to see our children and our children-in-law find legal acceptance for their relationship under the Special Marriages Act in our country. We are certain that a nation as big as ours, which respects its diversity and stands for the value of inclusion, will open its legal gates of marriage equality to our children too," as reported by Hindustan Times.

Also, over 30 LGBTQIA collectives with 600 students from law schools all over India condemned statements issued by the BCI against the marriage equality hearing in the Supreme Court as "queerphobic, regressive, and hegemonic".
