IAS exam 2020 application withdrawal facility was started on March 12. The candidates who had successfully applied for the IAS exam 2020 can withdraw their application and can get the refund of the IAS application fee. The UPSC IAS application 2020 was closed on March 3.

UPSC started this facility in recent years for the IAS exam. Under this facility, UPSC gave an opportunity to withdraw the application from the IAS exam. This was done because of the low percentage of candidates appearing in the IAS prelims exam.

As per the data of UPSC, around 50% of candidates who fill the IAS application form do not appear in the IAS prelims exam. To provide the opportunity to the candidates to withdraw their application, this facility was started. The candidates can withdraw the IAS application 2020 till March 18.

Though UPSC provides the opportunity to withdraw the IAS application but there are very fewer candidates who withdraw the application. This is the reason that the ratio of candidates who fill the form and who appear in the IAS prelims exam is still around 50%.

This facility has an economic orientation. The UPSC need to book the exam centres, pay the invigilators fees, print the IAS question paper for both the sessions(for all the applicants) and in the event of 50% attendance in the IAS exam, it bears the exchequer of UPSC.

There was a recommendation of UPSC to increase the application fee for the IAS prelims exam because the current fee is very less(Rs 100) and the candidates do not bother for the fee and abstain from appearing in the IAS prelims exam. However, this recommendation of UPSC was not accepted by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
