UGC NET Eligibility Criteria: CA/CS/ICWA qualification equivalent to PG Degree for appearing in exam

University Grant Commission (UGC) has decided that the qualification of Chartered Accountant (CA), Company Secretary (CS) and Cost and Works Accountants (ICWA) will now be considered equivalent to Post Graduation (PG) Degree for appearing in the UGC NET exam.

In its official circular dated March 15, 2021, the UGC stated that it took this decision after receiving requests from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, the Institute of Companies Secretaries of India and the Institute of Cost Accountants of India.

Impact of this decision on UGC NET Exam

The decision of the UGC eases the eligibility criteria for the candidates to appear for the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) examination to gain eligibility for recruitment to the posts of Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF).

From now onward, candidates who have been qualified as CA or CS or ICWA can appear for the UGC NET exam to pursue higher studies. This decision will open further opportunities for CA/CS/ICWA professionals across the globe.

UGC NET 2021 exam updates

The UGC NET 2021 exam process is currently underway. The application process has concluded successfully. Candidates who have applied for the UGC NET need to appear for the exam. The UGC NET 2021 exam will be held on May 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 14, and 17, 2021. The National Testing Agency (NTA) will soon release the UGC NET admit card 2021 on the official website- ugcnet.nta.nic.in.
