School bathroom wall collapses in Tamil Nadu; 3 students die

Three students of a government school on S.N. High Road in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu are reported to be dead while others are seriously injured after a wall of the school bathroom collapsed on Friday morning.

In a shocking incident, three students of Schaffter Higher Secondary School in Tirunelveli have died after one of the three covering walls of the school collapsed on Friday.

As per reports, the students went to the bathroom during the interval at 11 am when this wall fell on students. It killed three students while the other three are seriously injured and getting treatment at Tirunelveli medical college hospital. Two students, D. Vishwa Ranjan, from Ramaiyanpatti and K. Anbazhaga died on the spot. They both were students of class 9.

Fire and Rescue Services personnel and Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli City N.K. Senthamaraikannan along with Deputy Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli West T.P. Suresh Kumar rushed to the school to launch a rescue operation, the district collector also reached the school. 

The school administration declared a holiday on Friday after the tragic incident took place and Chief Educational Officer Subhashini has been asked to conduct a probe into the matter and submit a report to the Department of School Education. 

The students protested after the incident and blocked the passing of vehicles along the busy S.N. High Road for a while, police force tried to pacify the students. A few protesting students also broke the windscreen of an autorickshaw that tried crossing the blocked road. Students raised slogans against the school administration and also damaged the plants on the school premises.
