COVID-19 Crisis: In the last three days, Odisha’s Sundargarh and Sambalpur districts have witnessed the COVID-19 horror again. More than 70 students, including 53 girls have tested positive for COVID-19 in the districts of Odisha. According to PTI, the reports of fresh COVID-19 cases are coming from a government-aided St Merry Girls' School in Odisha's Sundargarh and Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Sambalpur.

In order to prevent the further spread of the virus, St Merry Girls' School, headmistress informed that the girls have been kept in isolation and are being treated for the virus. Informing that the health of these girls is in control, the headmistress informed that the educational institute has been shut for a week.

She further added that the infected students are of Classes 8, 9 and 10. The school tested the student for Covid-19 after a majority of them exhibited symptoms of cold and cough.

Meanwhile, VIMSAR in Burla has admitted their 22 infected students to the COVID hospital. It is being suspected that the students got infected after the institute's annual function, which was held recently.

Health expert Dr Narayan Mishra has expressed concerns over the sudden splurge of the novel coronavirus cases in the state after witnessing a significant drop in the number of infections. According to the official data, with the new 212 cases of COVID-19 Odisha’s coronavirus tally rose to 10,47,386. Out of the total number of fresh cases, 70 are children. Meanwhile, two fresh fatalities have pushed the state’s death toll to 8,396.
