Schools will be closed today, i.e. November 15, 2022, in the Sirkazhi and Tharangampadi taluks of Mayiladuthurai district of Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu Schools Closed: Heavy rains lashes continue to drench parts of Tamil Nadu resulting in the closure of schools and educational institutions today as well. Schools will be closed today, i.e. November 15, 2022, in the Sirkazhi and Tharangampadi taluks of Mayiladuthurai district of Tamil Nadu. Considering the rainfall and the work on pumping rainwater from campus are underway, Mayiladuthurai District Collector announced holiday for schools. The schools were observing holiday on November 14 as well which has been extended by another day. Indian Meteorological Department, IMD has also issued a red alert and flood warnings for the Sivaganga, Dindigul, Theni and Ramanathapuram districts in Tamil Nadu.
As per local reports, Mayiladuthurai DC released an official statement regarding the holiday tomorrow. “Since work on pumping the rainwater from school campuses are underway, a holiday has been declared for schools in the two taluks in the interests of students,” stated Collector R.Lalitha.
Schools are expected to stay open today in the other districts of Tamil Nadu. No update has been received regarding Chennai schools and their closure due to the rains as of now.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, CM MK Stalin also visited the Mayiladuthurai district to inspect the damages caused due to the heavy rainfall. Upon inspection, the CM has also ordered for relief for all those affected in Sirkazhi, Tharangampadi taluks of Mayiladuthurai.
Tamil Nadu has been witnessing heavy rainfall since the start of November, Schools and colleges have been closed repeatedly due to the rains and waterlogging in Chennai, Puducherry, Cuddalore, Thiruvallur and many other districts in the state.
