In a written letter submitted to the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for Education, Sukanta Majumdar shared data on DU applications versus admissions from session 2022 to 2024.

Getting admission in Delhi University is among the top preference for students willing to get admission to undergraduate/ postgraduate courses in India. However, nearly five lakh applicants were unable to secure a seat in Delhi University between the academic session 2022 to 2024. Even though the university has recorded a surge in number of applications with each passing year, the number of seats remained unchanged. 

In a written letter to the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar presented details regarding DU's admissions and application data for the session 2022-24.  According to data submitted by the government, during the previous three years (2022, 2023, and 2024), 4,64,870 students failed to get admission to courses offered by Delhi University. Only 2,04,230 of the 6,69,100 applications that were submitted during these three years were accepted for admission.

DU Admission Data Between Year 2022-24

In 2022, 1,76,221 applications were received by the authorities.  A total of 65,225 students were admitted, while 1,10,996 were unable to get admission. Likewise, in 2023, the number of applications was 2,466,685, as reported by The New Indian Express. 

To cater to the growing demand of students, DU has expanded with new campuses including the Western Campus at Dwarka, and Veer Savarkar College at Najafgarh. However, no new suggestions for further colleges within DU have been proposed.  The administration has not indicated if additional expansion plans are under consideration to decrease the admission gap.

DU admission is open. Admission in Delhi University is based on CUET-UG and CUET-PG scores. Below are the upcoming events for DU admission:

  • University of Delhi (DU) has released the admission cutoff for five-year integrated BA LLB and BBA LLB courses through Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) scores.
  • The CUET PG 2026 registration process for admission to PG courses is expected to begin in Jan 2026.
  • DU CSAS-PG 2025 Spot Round 3 allocations have been released for admission to various PG courses based on the CUET-PG 2025 scores, and the last date for fee payment is Aug 20, 2025.
Q:   What is the DU selection process for B.Ed programme?
A:

Candidates can apply for DU admission via Common University Entrance Test (CUET). Before applying for the course, aspirants must check out the eligibility requirements. To apply students can visit NTA official website. After the entrance test, the cutoff marks are made available beind the login on the official samarth portal of the university. At the time of CUET registration, aspirants must selection DU as a preference.
