The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore has announced the launch of its newly created IISc Post-Doctoral Fellowships (IPDF), inviting applications from motivated individuals with a proven track record of high-quality research.
The open-year-round application process, which began on July 12, 2025, marks a significant step in India’s ongoing efforts to bolster its scientific research ecosystem. This initiative aligns with the government’s recent $1.2 billion investment in research and development, announced last month, underscoring the nation’s commitment to fostering innovation.
The fellowship program spans a wide range of disciplines, including Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Physical & Mathematical Sciences, Electrical, Electronics, and Computer Sciences, as well as Interdisciplinary Sciences. Eligible candidates must possess a good academic record and a PhD, with those yet to submit their thesis also encouraged to apply by providing relevant proof. The program imposes an age limit of under 32 years at the time of application, though extensions may be considered after evaluation. Notably, Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO), and foreign nationals are also eligible to apply, reflecting India’s strategic outreach to its global diaspora.
Applications will be reviewed quarterly—on the 31st of March, June, September, and December—offering flexibility to prospective fellows. The initiative comes at a time when global research institutions are increasingly adopting flexible hiring practices to attract top talent amid a competitive international landscape. IISc’s move mirrors similar efforts by other premier Indian institutes, such as the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), which have also expanded opportunities for international candidates this year.
