Jamia Millia Islamia has confirmed nominal fee hike for 2025–26 applies only to new students and on select courses, with no change for existing batches.

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has clarified that recent reports circulating in media regarding its revised fee structure for academic session 2025–26 are not coorect. University has emphasised that fee revision is nominal and applicable only to newly admitted students. There has been no increase in fees for students already enrolled in existing courses.

JMI in a statement has highlighted that fee revision has been done in self financed and a few professional courses, with no across-the-board hikes as inaccurately reported. In fact, some courses have witnessed a reduction in fees, such as those offered by the Faculty of Management Studies and diploma programs under the University Polytechnic. JMI has stated that change merely in percentage terms misrepresents the actual scale of the revision, as the base amounts involved remain among the lowest in the country.

Jamia has further clarified that last fee hike was done over a decade ago, stating old fee structure is unsustainable now due to rising operational costs and inflation. It has stated that modest fee hike has been implemented only after extensive consultations by the University’s Prospectus Committee, which held multiple meetings over three months.

"Even after the revision, Jamia Millia Islamia remains one of the most affordable central universities in India. While reviewing the fee structure, JMI also benchmarked its courses against fee models of other central universities, ensuring affordability and accessibility remained a core priority," reads JMI release.

The varsity has stated that the revised fee is designed to help improve and sustain essential academic infrastructure, including upgraded laboratories, modern digital learning tools, cybersecurity frameworks, campus-wide Wi-Fi, and other key student services. This investment is aimed at enhancing the overall academic environment and student experience.

Jamia has also reduced fees for foreign students from SAARC countries and lowered fees for NRI wards and international applicants seeking admission to diploma courses under University Polytechnic.
