University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed the Universities and colleges across the country to prepare a calendar of events and arrange regular competitions, hackathons, workshops, seminars, etc. on cyber security/ cybercrimes on their respective campuses. The Higher Education regulator also asked the universities and colleges to conduct all these events at regular intervals following COVID-19 protocols and norms of social distancing at their respective educational institutions.

The Universities and colleges have been directed to share the action taken on the University Activity Portal of UGC i.e. uee.ac. in/uamp. The move aims to strengthen cyber security and to tackle the unforeseen challenges of cybercrime and develop an ecosystem for cyber security in HEIs.

It must be noted that this is not the first time that the UGC has asked the universities and colleges to strengthen their cyber security.

In February 2021, the UGC had requested the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to develop an ecosystem for cyber security in their respective campuses.

Meanwhile, the UGC has begun the registration process for scholarships to the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) postgraduate students in professional courses.
