The Uttar Pradesh government has presented its state budget for the year 2022. State Finance Minister Suresh Khanna announced that the government has earmarked INR 21 thousand crores for 14 new medical colleges in the state.
With the UP Budget 2022, the government intends to focus on issues related to employment, youth, women and infrastructure.
One month back, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that a foundation of new medical colleges would be created for 14 new districts.
About 14 new medical colleges
These medical colleges will be established in 14 districts Pilibhit, Auraiya, Kanpur Dehat, Kaushambi, Amethi, Lakhimpur Kheri, Chandauli, Bulandshahr, Sonbhadra, Bijnor, Kushinagar, Sultanpur, Gonda, and Lalitpur.
“New colleges will not only help increase the number of doctors but also make treatment accessible for those living in these districts,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general association of international doctors, as reported by Hindustan Times.
The state has a large number of medical aspirants who appear for the NEET entrance examination every year and more number of medical colleges in the state would result in more opportunities for these students.
UP Budget 2022 aims to make medical education accessible to domicile students
A significant boost has been given to medical education in the state to make it accessible for domicile students.
Of late, the UP government has been on a spree to create more medical colleges in the state under the Central government scheme. Last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated nine medical colleges in the state in the districts of Pratapgarh, Fatehpur, Deoria, Siddharthnagar, and Etah, Hardoi, Ghazipur, Mirzapur and Jaunpur districts of the state.
