As I Know in abacus learning, children mainly use just two fingers — the thumb and the index finger.

The thumb is usually used to push the lower beads upward toward the bar. The index finger brings beads down or moves the upper bead. These two fingers work like a small team, moving quickly and rhythmically as the child calculates.

As students become faster, they sometimes use the middle finger for better speed and control, but the ring finger and little finger are generally not involved.

The reason for using mainly these fingers is simple — it builds coordination and speed. Over time, the movements become so natural that even when students do mental abacus (without a physical frame), their fingers may slightly move as if they're still touching the beads. That connection between finger movement and thinking is what makes abacus training so powerful.

It's less about using all the fingers and more about mastering precise, confident movement with the right ones.
