You can get into an Automobile Engineering college using your Class 12 marks, your entrance exam scores or both.
Taking an exam is always smart because it gives you more college options and makes admission easier. But many colleges in India accept students based purely on their Class 12 board marks though you still need to study hard and get high grades to secure a seat at a popular school.

To be very honest, there is no fixed time to prepare for exam because everyone learns differently.
But it is best to start studying at least 8 months before the test. This gives you plenty of time to learn the whole syllabus, review everything properly and get a great score so you can secure a seat at your dream college.

To get into an Automobile Engineering course, you need to clear an entrance exam. You can take national-level exams like JEE Main and JEE Advanced for top government colleges, or state-level exams like MHT CET and KCET.

If you are intrested in car designing after 10th grade by pursuing automobile engineering you can take PCM in 11th–12th, then pursue B.Tech in Automobile/Mechanical Engineering. Later, specialize in automotive design via M.Des or internships.
