After polytechnic, that means diploma in engineering, if you want to do further study then there are various options for you. first of all you may go for graduation in engineering B.Tech or B.E. in B.Tech you may take admission through lateral entry. in this case you will get chance to take admission directly in second year B.Tech. but in IITs there are no lateral entry seat. in other way you may appear in engineering entrance examination like a 12th pass candidates. after clearing the engineering entrance examination according to your rank through counseling you will get chance to select your college for graduation in engineering. so many students after polytechnic choose this option.
you may also go for general B.Sc study after completion of your polytechnic. you may take admission in B.Sc with honors in a good subject in which you have interest. you may also go for different professional courses like BCA, BBA etc if you wish. even after completion of your polytechnic you may also go for job. most of the engineering organization recruit polytechnic candidates. after few years experience you may go for graduation in engineering study if you wish.
you may do some computer related or your stream related training so that you can get a very good job. you may also change your stream of study into arts or commerce. you may go for graduation in language subject. you may do honors in English literature if you have interest on English language.

First Year
33% Weightage Choose your Main/Major Subject You need to choose and study your main subject for your Honours Degree. This main subject is called Discipline Course I
67% Weightage - In addition, to the above main major subject you will be exposed to Foundation Courses (FC). These courses will help you to understand the challenges of India. You will work in a hands-on manner. Your communication, IT and data analysis skill will be improved and you will learn in an inter-disciplinary mode.
Second Year
34% Weightage Main/Major Subject You will be continuing your study of Major subject, that you chose in the first year as Discipline Course I.
33% Weightage Foundation Course You will be further exposed to a small number of Foundation Courses that will enhance your broad knowledge in a hands-on project mode for wide ranging benefits.
16% Weightage Minor Subject You will have to choose from a wide variety of subjects a maximum of two subjects of your liking for additional knowledge outside your major area of study. These courses will be called DC-II courses.
16% Weightage Applied Courses You will choose two courses from a vast choice of knowledge based skills courses that will help increase your employability or help make you an entrepreneur.
Third Year
60% Weightage Main/Major Subject You will now be given a greater depth in your major subject.
20% Weightage Minor Subject You will continue to study your choice of Discipline II subjects to enhance your knowledge outside your major area of study.
20% Weightage Applied Courses You will once again choose two courses from a vast choice of knowledge based skills courses that will help increase your employability or help make you an entrepreneur.
Fourth Year
75% Weightage Main/Major Subject You will now study at a deep level your main/major subject in DC I. you will also be exposed to research.
25% Weightage Minor Subject You will continue to study your choice of Discipline II subjects to enhance your knowledge outside your major area of study.
