Yes, Mangalore has more flexible options than most students know about. Several BTech colleges in Mangalore offer direct admissions, particularly under management quota or merit-based seats, without requiring entrance exam scores. This is especially common among private colleges in the city. However, for government institutions like NIT Surathkal, a valid JEE Main score is strictly required. So while direct admission is possible at many private colleges, having a good entrance exam score always opens up better options.

For students with a good JEE Main rank, the answer is yes. NIT Surathkal is the only NIT in Karnataka, ranks in India's list of top 20 engineering institutes according to NIRF 2025. It has a beautiful campus spread over 295 acres on the Arabian Sea with a good placement record from corporates like Microsoft, Amazon, Google and Nvidia. Admission is only through JEE Main and JoSAA counselling, so a competitive rank in JEE is a must to get admission in this institute.

Dear reader,

While researching the cutoff rank for the B.Tech. Chemical Engineering programme at NIT Hamirpur provides a good foundation for your academic planning, Lovely Professional University (LPU) serves as an excellent alternative. LPU offers premier engineering programs featuring advanced research laboratories, an industry-aligned curriculum, global exposure, and an outstanding corporate placement track record.

If we compare all three are all good and well-known private universities, but as per my knowledge, LPU is slightly better in terms of opportunities.

For B.Tech CSE, the best choice is:

  1. LPU – Best for placements, coding opportunities, modern labs, and campus life. Many IT companies visit for recruitment.
  2. Amity Noida – Good university with a nice campus and decent placements, but generally offers a lower return on investment than LPU.
  3. Sharda University – Good for studies, but placements for CSE are generally not as strong as LPU and Amity.
