IIT Kharagpur admissions are both merit & entrance-based. The college accepts national-level entrance examinations for admission to specific programmes. The entrance examinations accepted for BTech are JEE Advanced,  JEE Main, etc. The university releases a merit list to announce the names of shortlisted aspirants.

IIT Kharagpur - Indian Institute of Technology will release 6 rounds of JEE Main cutoffs for admission to BTech. The cutoffs will be released on a rolling basis, and the seats will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The cutoffs are based on factors such as Category, Performance, Seats Available and Competition. 

Candidates must visit the official website of entrance exam to read clear instructions on how to proceed with the counselling process, once the round is released.

In the band of these ranks, Computer Science and Engineering was the most competitive specialisation.
