Bhilai

IIT, Bhilai was established in 2016, ad it is the 23rd IIT established by the Government of India. The college is situated on a transit campus at Government Engineering College, Raipur, Chhattisgarh. The college offers Undergraduate (BTech), Postgraduate (MTech), and PhD courses in Computer Science and Engineering. All the programs are semester-oriented and follow a credit-based system of education under which the students are required to complete the credit requirements for the course. A prescribed nominal duration of the program is fixed. Students can complete the credits in lesser time or may invest more time to move to the higher level of the system.
Facilities at IIT Bhilai:
IIT Bhilai, in a short time, has made numerous efforts to provide better facilities for all academic and overall development. Some of the facilities include:
-Central Library: The Central Library or the knowledge hub of IIT, Bhilai helps in facilitating the learning, teaching, and research activities of all the students, teachers, research scholars, staff members, etc. The library is fully equipped with both online and offline resources in the forms of CDROMs, DVD ROMs, journals, books, magazines, online databases, etc., and is also open on weekends to facilitate learning.
-Central Instrumentation Facility: The Central Instrumentation Facility (CIF) was established by IIT, Bhilai to help its students carry out research work in advanced scientific domains.
-Health Centre: A health centre with round-the-clock availability is also housed on the campus. It is equipped with well-trained doctors and nurses and a 24*7 ambulance service. The institute also has a tie-up with nearby hospitals in case of emergency.
-Halls of Residence: IIT, Bhilai is a fully residential college and provides separate hostel facilities for both girls and boys. The college has two hostels with all the basic amenities such as clean water, wi-fi, washing machines, etc. including a spacious dining hall, well-equipped recreational area, indoor games area as well as a fitness centre.
-Sports Facilities: IIT, Bhilai offers its students good sports facilities to keep them in good health and also tackle the curriculum with an open mind. It has several grounds and courts for different types of sports along with indoor game facilities and a well-equipped gymnasium. The college also organizes a number of sports events such as Inter IIT Sports Meet, Prayatna, International Day of Yoga, and various others in which the students can showcase their talent.
-Workshops: Regular workshops are held for students to introduce them to practical skills such as laser cutting, engraving, welding, etc. in a unique and modern transit shop which includes machines like laser cutting and engraving machines, drilling machines, pick and place robots, etc.
Industrial training and fieldwork:
Students of all programs of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT, Bhilai are encouraged for industrial training and fieldwork to supplement their knowledge and familiarize themselves with the industry environment. B.Tech CSE students are encouraged for industrial training and fieldwork in the summers while the M. Tech. CSE students are expected to do research on or off campus.
Scholarships, Fellowships, and more at IIT Bhilai:
-Merit- cum- means (MCM) Scholarship: Students will get full tuition- fee waiver as well as pocket money of INR 1000 per month for 10 months. The scholarship is awarded on two criteria- MERIT, which is the CML rank in JEE or the last CGPA obtained by the students, and MEANS which is based on the combined parental income of the student.
-Institute SC/ ST Scholarship: All SC/ ST students in the UG program with a CGPA of 7.0 or above and a maximum parental income of INR. 4.5 LPA are provided free messing and boarding along with pocket money of INR 250 per month.
-Institute Free Studentship Scholarship: It is similar to the Merit- cum- Means Scholarship for the students.
-Institute Fellowship to Postgraduate Students: All the non-sponsored M.Tech students with a valid GATE score are provided fellowship for a maximum of 21 months by the institute. The PhD students are also provided fellowship by the institute for 3 years which they may gain for another year with a positive recommendation from the department.
-GSTN- CSR Scholarship for M. Sc. students: It is also provided on the Merit- cum- Means basis and the students will be awarded Rs 12K per year which they will be awarded in two installments- monsoon and winter semesters.
Placements at IIT Bhilai:
IIT, Bhilai has some of the best placements among the third generation IITs. The Centre for Career Planning and Services keeps its students up to date with the current technologies and sift skill requirements. A lot of students have been able to secure lucrative job opportunities in some of the best companies. For the year 2021- 22, more than 115 recruiters joined the placement activities offering job roles to students with an average annual salary of INR 14LPA.

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at IIT, Bhilai was established in 2018. The establishment was made by merging the two major departments; Computer Science and Engineering and Electrical Engineering. The college offers undergraduate (BTech), postgraduate (MTech), and PhD courses in Electrical Engineering. The academic program follows fractal academics which offers a scope of various modern mechanisms of imparting education. It includes tele- communication, the creation of breadth as well as depth of the subjects, offers flexibility, wider choices of electives, fosters modern interdisciplinary education as well as provides scope for strong industry interaction.
With around 50 UG and 12 PG students in each batch, the department of EECS at IIT, Bhilai offers the following state-of-the-art facilities to its EE students covering the spectrum of the EECS:
Computer Systems:
-High-Performance Computing and GPU
-Devices and Circuits such as PCB Printing machines, oscilloscopes, Digital multimeters, etc.
-Sensor and instrumentation such as Pyranometer, LVDT Trainer Kit, Strain Gauge Trainer Kit, etc.

-Control systems lab- that includes Temperature and Intensity control Trainer kit and Setup, Magnetic Levitation Setup, etc.

The Department of EECS, in collaboration with other departments, is offering other UG and PG Programs in Mechatronics as well as Electric Vehicle Technology. IIT, Bhilai also provides proper accommodation facilities to its students along with the mess.
Fee structure:
The SC/ ST/ PH students along with the Economically Backward students whose family income is less than INR 1 LPA can get a complete fee waiver at IIT, Bhilai. Besides this, the EWS students are also eligible to get a remission of 2/3rd of the total tuition fee if family income is between INR 1 LPA to 5 LPA. IIT, Bhilai also provides proper accommodation facilities to its students along with mess which may cost the students up to INR 34,200.
Fee structure of different courses in Electrical Engineering:
The course fee for B. Tech, M. Tech, and PhD in Electrical Engineering is INR 160000, INR 65000, and INR 62700 respectively. For international students, the fee for M. Tech and PhD programs in Electrical Engineering is INR 1.35 LPA.
Placements:
The Centre for Career Planning and Services at IIT Bhilai assists students in selecting their career paths and provides ample opportunities for internships and placements to help them realize this dream. More than 300 offers have been made to students with lucrative packages from companies such as Google, Amazon, Intuit, Sprinklr, Dunzo, AirAsia Technology, Paytm, L&T, Commvault, etc. in three years of its establishment.

- For the year 2020- 21, around 42 B. Tech EE students registered for campus placements out of which 39 got placed leading the placement percentage to 92.86%
- For the year 2021- 22, 38 B. Tech EE students registered for campus placements out of which 19 got placed making the placement percentage 50%
- For the same year (2021- 22), 9 M. Tech EE students registered for campus placements out of which 1 got placed leading the placement percentage to 11.11%

2021- 22- The average CTC of INR 14.04 LPA was offered with a maximum CTC of INR 21 LPA and a minimum CTC of INR 7 LPA.

Internships:
IIT, Bhilai offers two internship opportunities to its students in a year- summer and winter internships. The Winter internships span for 4 months starting in December while the Summer Internships last around 12 weeks between the months of May to July. The college collaborates with major corporate houses, industrial facilities, institutions, and other organizations to provide internship opportunities to students along with practical and industrial exposure. For the year 2022, around 69 students from the EECS department managed to bag the internship from some of the top companies such as Newgen Software, TCS, Research, NewZera, Tomia Global, MAQ Software, Click2Cloud Inc, Arista Networks, VMWare, NTPC, etc.

Admissions:
Admission to BTech (Electrical Engineering) is done through the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) while the MTech (EE) is made through Joint Admission Test for MSc (JAM).

The admissions for session 2023-24 for BJMC in Shri Shankaracharya Professional University, Bhilai, Chhattisgarh will begin in March, 2023. Candidates who are interested in a particular course can apply online.
The annual fee structure for this course is Rs. 30,000.
Admission to the UG program is based on the marks secured in class 12 senior secondary class. Admission to the PG course is based on the marks obtained in the graduation degree. Class 12 scores are important for qualifying for eligibility. They must submit an online application on the official website. Selection is merit-based and the qualifying examination scores can act as a tie-breaker.
