According to PIB, India recorded approximately 56 Lacs foreign tourist arrivals, and 303.59 crore domestic tourist visits till August 2025. With the increased emphasis on Travel and Tourism by the central and other state governments, Travel and Tourism graduates are in steady demand. Multiple roles like destination marketing, event coordination and many more job options are available. IRCTC and Aviation sector government policies also open the doors for new jobs in these departments.

The highest paid roles in Travel and Tourism for freshers in India are usually found in airlines & aviation operations. Cabin crew/flight attendant is an entry level job in the field of aviation. It has an average salary of 8 LPA, with the top 10% and 1% going as high as 10.2 LPA and 24 LPA respectively.

Some of the most opted undergraduate courses for Travel and Tourism are BBA in Travel and Tourism, BSc and BA in Travel Studies and BCom in Travel and Tourism Management. These are all 3 year courses. While popular Postgraduate courses are Master of Tourism and Travel Management, MBA in Tourism and Travel Management and MSc in Travel and Tourism. These are 2 year courses.

In order to work in the management and operations of the industry, the best choice for you would be a BBA/PGDM degree in Travel and Tourism Management.

But, in case of your interest towards planning and agency work, you should consider pursuing a BA/MA degree.

The requirements are different for each course and college. For a BA or BBA course, the basic requirement is passing class 12th in any stream. The aggregate percentage required by each college is different, but the minimum range is 45% to 50%.

For an MA or MBA course, passing an undergraduate degree in a relevant course is required. The aggregate percentage necessary is also at least 45% to 50%. Some colleges take admission on the basis of entrance exams. Check eligibility criteria on the official website of the college before applying.

A Travel and Tourism graduate can work in multiple facets of this industry. If they're interested in numbers, they can work in the sales or logistics department. But if they are more into problem solving, organizing and interactions, they can also work fully in the hospitality department.
