Biomedical Engineering is a developing field. In India, it is still at a very nacent stage. Biomedical all together is a very vast field with several domains. The jobs for Biomedical Engineer are broadly divided into following:
1. Research and Development: If you want to pursue a Ph.D. and then further enter the research field (academic as well as industry) - This field has enormous potential and lots of money, but currently in India very few companies are doing RnD. Internationally it has a very huge scope.
2. Sales: Dealing with sale of medical equipment - The pay from sales team varies from companies to companies, but in the end the incentives can be quite good if you are good ATIT.
3. Service: Servicing of the sold equipment. The starting pay like sales is very low, which gradually increases with time. But you need to be ready to travel too.
4. Application specialist: You need to be really good at something for applying for this. The role of person with this profile is generally installing devices and providing trainings and demos.
5. Academics: Teaching is always a well-paid and well reputed job.
6. Hospital In house Engineers: Now a days all the hospital have at least one (bigger hospitals have a separate department) in-house biomedical engineer to make sure any machine is not down for a long time
There are various opportunities after doing Biomedical Engineering if you are ready to explore and adapt as per the job profile requirements. The candidates who have completed the post-graduation with 55% marks can apply for the exam. The UGC NET Exam is conducted for various 84 subjects, while the CSIR NET Exam is conducted for Science stream subject as follows: Life Science, Physical Science, Mathematical Science, Earth Science and Chemical Science. As you have completed your M.Tech, you can apply for the CSIR NET Earth Science or Life Science subjects.
