The university releases a cutoff list to declare the minimum scores required for selection. Candidates with marks equal to or more than the cutoff marks become eligible for admission.

Admission to the BTech course for most of the NITs are done through JEE Main and no other entrance examination scores are accepted by the authorities. For outside India candidates, (Direct Admission of Students Abroad) DASA UG is accepted by the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela for admission. There are limited seats available for the students so apply early. Those students who are applying for admission through JEE Main must keep an eye on JEE Main exam dates and JEE Main admit card release dates.

Candidates must first check the minimum eligibility and selection criteria for the course they want to pursue. If a student meets the minimum eligibility, then he/she can go ahead by completing the application process. NIT Rourkela further grants admissions based on merit in the last qualifying or entrance examinations and performance in the respective counselling rounds. Seats are limited so apply early for admissions to various courses at National Institute of Technology, Rourkela.
