The counselling process is held by the UTU (Uttarakhand Technical University) for admission into BTech at GBPUAT. The registration process is online. The first round of the counselling is online whereas, the concluding rounds of the counselling process may require students to be physically present at the counselling venue.

For admission in the BTech Lateral Entry Programme the students are required to appear for the counselling with the Diploma merit and qualifying exam result. The GB Pant University provides the students with this opportunity as a result of which the students with Diploma degree can directly take admission in the third semester of the BTech course.

Seats for admission in the BTech course by GBPUAT, is allocated by the counselling process based on the JEE Mains score. Addition to this, the minimum required aggregate for class 12 is 45% (5% relaxation to reserved categories.) with Mathematics and Physics being compulsory subjects.

The students are encouraged to take up internships as it provides the student with pre-requisite knowledge for a professional working setup.

Both Shiv Nadar University and GBPUAT are decent universities for the BTech course and holds NIRF ranking of 100 and 88 respectively. The fees for studying BTech at Shiv Nadar University is higher than that of GBPUAT but the median salary package offered also has a significant difference. The choice of University depends upon several factors and are very subjective. It becomes important for the students to take informed decision while choosing the college.

GBPUAT scholarships and awards are given to the meritorious students. The students need to first qualify for the scholarship and awards by meeting the pre-set eligibility. Usually the topper student of respective batches from the third and four year of the BTech course are given merit scholarship of INR 2,000

For the All India Quota only 15% of the existing seats are given at GBPUAT. The other 85% of the seat are reserved for the student with domicile of Uttarakhand state. This information may vary in case of certain specialisation as per the number of applicants and other relevant factors.
