The ICAI follows a fair method of evaluation of exam papers of candidates. Be it CA Foundation, CA Intermediate or CA Final exam papers, the ICAI checks the paper on merit of the arguments made. In theory paper, the points are given on language of the answer, clarity of the argument and presentation. In practical papers, marks are awarded if the answer is supported by working notes. If the answer is presented well, clearly in tabular format with working notes (showing calculation), it is sure to get marks. Students say that working notes help in getting grace marks.

Question paper observation is a process through which candidates can raise query with the ICAI examination authorities regarding the question paper for the exam they have appeared for. The process usually starts from the next day of the examination and candidates have to submit their observation via email. No fee is charged for the same. Dates of submission of question paper submission vary for CA Foundation, CA Inter and CA Final exams.

After completing CA Final course, students can start independent practice or join an auditing firm as chartered accountant or analyst. Top job options for certified CAs are Finance Manager, Tax Manager, Certified Public Accountant, Teacher, Civil or Government Service, to name a few. They can also go for other professional courses such as MBA/PGDM to make a career in corporate finance. If one wishes to start independent practice, they need to set up a firm as a sole-proprietorship or in partnership. Also Read: CA career scope and job profiles

If a candidate is unable to clear the CA Final course exam in the first attempt, they can reappear. The initial registration for Final Course is valid for five years, which means each candidate gets 10 attempts. After five years, they can register again for the next five years. The certificate to practice Chartered Accountancy as a profession is given to any student by the ICAI only after they clear the final level. Irrespective of the number of attempts they have made to clear it. Until they clear the CA Final level and get the certificate, they cannot practice as a professional.

The passing marks for CA Final is minimum of 40 per cent aggregate in each individual subject and 50 per cent aggregate of all the subjects at one sitting in either both the groups or a single group. Candidates who do not score the minimum percentage, have to take the exam again in the next cycle.

Students can make as many attempts as they can because, to complete the Chartered Accountancy course, one needs to clear all the course levels with passing marks. The CA course is of a very high difficulty level and even the toppers manage to score not more than 70-75 per cent. A large number of students cannot clear a course level in one go.

The CA result, scorecard or merit list can be accessed online only. Apart from direct download via login, there is a provision to obtain CA result via email. The provision of obtaining results via email was introduced in 2022. To get result via email, candidates have to submit a request on the ICAI website as per the schedule announced by the exam authorities.

These processes have been put in place for the convenience of candidates as a soft copy of the scorecard is saved in the student dashboard and they can download it as soon as it is announced or whenever they need. Online announcement of result is quick and safe.

Yes, the candidates can apply for scorecard verification after the result announcement. The facility is available for all three course levels. The window for rechecking of a particular CA course opens a day after announcement of the result. Candidates can apply for scorecard verification within a month of result announcement along with a demand draft of INR 200 in favour of the Secretary, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, payable at New Delhi. The fee is non-refundable and the result of rechecking will be final. Students can’t apply for rechecking more than once.
