Established in 1969 jointly by the Government of India and the Government of Karnataka, the IHM Bangalore is a public institute that is affiliated with Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT).

It is located in Bangalore and offers UG,  PG,  Diploma and Certificate courses in the field of Hospitality and Hotel Management. IHM Bangalore is also certified by the ISO.

IHM Bangalore is consistently recognised as a highly-ranked institute across various categories by India Today 2024 among other institutes by excelling in key areas such as Teaching, Graduation Outcome, Inclusivity & Research, and many more.

In the 'Hotel Management' category, the institute's ranks have displayed instability in comparison with last year's ranking. In 2024, IHM Bangalore's rank is #4, the same as last year's rank in the 'Hotel Management' category by the India Today ranking.

Kuvempu University's three-year PhD course is offered across different specialisations. All these courses are offered in a full-time mode.
