The placement of the mechanical branch is quite good at NIT Rourkela. Core companies like Tata steel, Vedanta, Tata motors, Maruti - Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra and many more visit our campus every year and recruit meritorious students as Graduate engineer Trainees. Sometimes PSUs also come NIT Rourkela because it is one of the top NITs. Fortunately last year Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) visited our campus. Average package of core company is more than 8 LPA.
Since core companies are limited in number and select few students only, so many other students have to go for analytics, consultancy and IT sectors. A number of students get placed in TCS,Mu Sigma,Infosys etc every year. As far as job is concerned, almost every sincere students of ME branch get placed on campus ,whatever be the companies. Package offered by these companies are not so high but satisfactory.

Both Food processing and industrial design are different. So it solely depend on you that if you are interested to know the techniques behind food processing as well as gain knowledge for it then just move on for food processing engineering in NIT Rourkela. It is a new branch started in NIT Rourkela and very soon it has gained tremendous popularity in the mean time. It has hold a good placement record instead of a new branch. The placements of NIT Rourkela is good. The average placement of the college is around 6-7 LPA. Mostly, all the student got placed. Last year, the highest package was 29 LPA which is offered by Amazon. Many core and analytical company visit every year. Around 90-100% of the students got placed. In NITJ, placements of Industrial and Production is comparable to mechanical, which is pretty good. Lot of good MNCs come to NITJ for recruitment. Usually number of offers are higher than number of students. And given a choice in between NIT Rourkela and Jalandhar, Rourkela has got better ranking, hence should be preferred. As you scored 53% and you belong to SC background you can get admission in any of the colleges. But it is difficult for getting admission into NITs and IITs. as per new rule , the new eligibility criteria for getting admission in NIT is having minimum 75% in board 12th exam and the merit of this year is expected above 150 marks in JEE; for General students.For SC/ST candidates, the eligibility criteria is 65% marks in class 12th. So its quite difficult to get admission in NIT. But there are many other colleges with similar rankings where you can get admission very easily. So there is lot of opportunity where you can excel in your life. Just study hard and fulfill your dreams. You can get admission in colleges like Birla institute of technology and science, Anna university, Alliance College of Engineering and Design, Alliance University, Anekal, Bangalore, Vellore institute of technology, college of engineering, pune etc
