Both Food processing and industrial design are different. So it solely depend on you that if you are interested to know the techniques behind food processing as well as gain knowledge for it then just move on for food processing engineering in NIT Rourkela. It is a new branch started in NIT Rourkela and very soon it has gained tremendous popularity in the mean time. It has hold a good placement record instead of a new branch. Well, for getting admission into the college NIT Rourkela, you need to qualify class 12 board exam and the JEE Mains exam. Based on your score and rank you can apply for any branch of your interest in NIT Rourkela. The criteria For candidates to qualify for admissions to NITs/IIITs/GFTIs, they should have secured at least 75% marks in class 12th exam or be in the top 20 percentile in class 12th exam conducted by the respective boards,for General students. As you scored 53% and you belong to SC background you can get admission in any of the colleges. But it is difficult for getting admission into NITs and IITs. as per new rule , the new eligibility criteria for getting admission in NIT is having minimum 75% in board 12th exam and the merit of this year is expected above 150 marks in JEE; for General students.For SC/ST candidates, the eligibility criteria is 65% marks in class 12th. Hi,
All the NITs are equally good and holds a good placement record as well. NIT Rourkela is good enough for Computer Science and engineering. It has a good infrastructure, and good faculty members as well. It holds a good placement record. The companies like Dell, Microsoft, SAP Labs, Direct, PwC India, Goldman Sachs, HP, NCR Corporation, Oracle Apps, Cloud, Financial Services, Samsung, Ericsson So placement wise its good that's the only thing that matters in the end and academics wise it completely depends on you. If you are interested for Food processing and want to discover the technology beyond it, you should opt for Food processing in NIT Rourkela. When its about B.tech in any stream NIT Rourkela comes out to be the best.When you say about Ceramic Engineering in NIT Rourkela and look upon the past records , you would not be much satisfied. But with the changing scenario, Ceramic engineering is doing pretty well and its demand is also increasing day by day.

Congrats for your good rank. According to past records, the cut-off for mechanical engineering in NIT Rourkela is around 14000 to 15000. So, yes, there is more chance of getting mechanical engineering branch which you have chosen. You have the caliber as well as the rank which is mostly needed.
