Stony Brook University provides test options for submitting a GRE score for graduate admission. However, students prefer to submit official scores to the university to add a positive factor during application review. Along with the GRE scores, students must submit GPA scores (minimum 3 or above) letters of recommendation, personal statements, official transcripts, and English language proficiency scores at the time of admission. The university reviews the application and responds within a few weeks.

Stony Brook University expects a minimum cumulative GPA of 3 or above on a 4-point scale during postgraduate admission. Along with the GPA score, students must hold a bachelor's degree from a recognised university as a basic eligibility criterion. Also, they must submit documents, such as three letters of recommendation, personal statements, GRE scores, and official transcripts, and prove their English language proficiency by submitting the scores of IELTS, TOEFL, and more.
