The University of New Mexico SAT requirement is optional. However, if the applicant wants to submit they can. Submitting a strong SAT can add value to the portfolio of the prospective applicant. However, if the student is submitting the university expects a minimum SAT total score of 1130.

International students have to submit their IELTS score to meet the English language University of New Mexico requirements. However, the university also approves other English tests such as TOEFL, PET, and Duolingo were completed within 2 years of the applicant's course date at the University of New Mexico rather than the general 2 years.
