American University announces the admission decisions in 45 to 60 days after the submission of the application. The eligible students are notified about their scholarships (if availed) with the offer letter that is sent via email. As a prerequisite to completing the offer, international students must complete a pre-visa assessment.

The American University offers a variety of scholarships to full-time international students. These scholarships are awarded based on merit, academic excellence, and the achievements of applicants. 

International students who wish to avail the scholarships provided by American University should apply for the Fall (August) semester instead of the Spring semester. The applicants must select the checkbox for scholarship aid in the application form. The scholarship award is communicated to the applicants along with their acceptance letter.

International students need to fulfil the following eligibility criteria for admission to American University:

UG Requirements

  • Secondary school education certificate

  • English language proficiency

PG Requirements 

  • International UG degree with minimum CGPA

  • Work experience for specific programs

  • English language proficiency 

Note: American University accepts a maximum of 30 credit hours from one or a combination of Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate, CLEP subject examinations, or other AU-approved test credit. All exams for test credit must be completed prior to AU matriculation.

According to the student population data for fall 2022 UND has a total enrollment of 13876 of which 9928 are UG students, 3,436 are PG students, 229 are students in law school, and 283 are students in medical school moreoever UND has more than 1000 international students from 97 nations.

UND is the only university in North Dakota that has medical and law schools and in the US News & World Report's national universities ranking for 2022-23 UND ranks at the #250 position while it ranks at the #1208 position in the global universities category ranking by US News in 2022-23. In case of the global universities category ranking of U.S. News UND's ranking has declined as in 2022 the university was placed at #1081.

All students that live on campus in the residence halls, except for those living in Swanson Hall, are required to purchase one of the anytime access meal plans. Students who live in off-campus housing, Greek housing, Swanson Hall, Apartment-Style Housing, and UND Apartments are able to select from the non-residence hall student meal plan options.

UND provides on-campus accommodation for students. The cost to live on campus varies by living option. Residence Halls are billed similarly, while apartment-style housing and on-campus apartments vary by unit type.

It has many residence halls and over 850 on-campus apartments. Some of the amenities that are provided to students who live on-campus include maintenance, bed lofts, internet, laundry and more. Note that all the first-year students are required to live in a residence hall, on-campus for their first, full-academic year. According to the College Housing facts, 34% of on-campus students return to live on campus for another year

The University of North Dakota Student Employment programme provides part time job opportunities to student to help finance their educational needs along with providing work experience which allows students to explore career options, discover strengths, and see how academic learning applies to world of work. The positions are available on campus and wages vary depending on the job. International students are not eligible for Federal Work Study (FWS), however, they can still work on-campus.
