It is among a select group of R1 institutions in the US, which are known for their very high research activity.
The university's scientists are known for conducting hundreds of innovative tasks in Health sciences each year. Also a number of his medicines have also reached the market, with some notable ones including: Xalatan, Remixade, Reopro, Benefix, Latanoprost & Zolinza.

Columbia is known for its academic rigor & providing a world class learning environment that also focuses on the overall development of students & not just the academic part.
The campus offers a number of extra-curricular facilities including a world class athletics program, 24x7 dining facilities, state-of-the-art arts facilities including dance halls & museums.

The institute was founded in 1754 under the name “King's College” by George II, on the lands of the trinity church in Manhattan. It shifted its base to 49th street & Madison Avenue in 1857 before moving to Morningside Heights in 1897.
The institute got renamed as Columbia University in 1912.

Ruth Benedict, was the first female woman professor at Columbia University. She was an assistant professor in anthropology who then get promoted in 1931 to the role of senior professor, creating history as the first tenured faculty member at the institution.

As per data curated from the official university housing portal of GMU, the annual room cost is around USD 26,597 (INR 22.75 L). This fee includes the room fee of around USD 14,010 (INR 12 L) as well as Support Fees of around USD 12,587 (INR 10.75 L).
The fee covers costs such as: utilities, electricity, Wi-fi & the maintenance costs.
