Jadavpur University maintains a very strict policy of reservations, where 90% of the total engineering seats are reserved for students who hold a domicile certificate of West Bengal. Rest 10% of seats are for students from the rest of India under the All-India quota. Such high percentage of reservations for home-state students makes the competition for the All-India seats incredibly high.

The university offers 1,355 seats for the BE course, distributed across 16+ departments. The maximum student intake is offered in the "core" departments: Mechanical Engineering (148 seats), Electrical Engineering (148 seats), and Civil Engineering (147 seats).
