1. BA with Honours in English / BA (General) with at least 45% marks in English as an Elective subject.
2. Bachelor's degree in any subject with at least 50% marks in the aggregate or Master's degree in a subject other than English.

Generally, if you fail in one or two subjects then colleges allow you to attend class in the 2nd year and then give the exam next year with the paper of 2nd year but if you fail in honours subject then you have to first pass the exam and then attend the next year's class.
