To attain an associate's certificate in this field you need 2-3 years. Whereas, the undergraduate Bachelors degree in interior design takes 4 years and 2 years for Masters.

Hello Anirudh,
Here are some of the key points to crack NIFT entrance exam :
1) Practice is the key to success. Try to sketch almost anything and everything you come across.
2) Browse through various newspapers, magazines and online sites.
3) Take ideas from various advertisements, posters, banners etc., you come across.
4) Keep your eraser away from you while practising.
5) It'll help your lines become more bold and confident.
6) Give importance to detailing where ever required, like the face of a human figure or the humans outfits etc.
7) Try to master the skills of human illustration. Concentrate more in proportions, form etc.

The syllabus of NIFT is vast. Preparing for NIFT can be a bit confusing to know what will come and what will not.
Its better to by any reference book for NIFT preparation as it provides a better grip of what all will be coming.
It assesses ones logical thinking analytical thinking general awareness and your aptitude for this course.
Prepare general knowledge from books and newspapers.
