You must look at the entire field of media especially script writing, film making of digital arts. There are some very good diplomas in these, I can tell more about it if you like. There are several careers in media in writing, production or post production.
-You can become a reporter, actor or getting behind the camera to direct, cinematographer or do finishing work as an editor, compositor or a VFX artist who can add reality to 3D visualizations.
-You may even be a graphic artist who designs the screens, or an animator who brings stories to life as a proxy actor for onscreen characters. You can get into production, whether live or animated.
-You can be a story writer who writes for live and animated screens or even roll the story into a video/ PC game.
-You can be a script writer who would stop at nothing to give wonderful scene setups to bring the story to life.
-You could be an artist who designs characters or who storyboards the film for live or animated performance.
-You can also double up as a voice over artist who gives his/ her voice to the characters or dub for movie stars, or even be a radio star.
-You can alternatively look at web for a web of careers in web design, online marketing, search engine optimization, content writing, social media promoting. Any extra skill can be used in this.
So it turns out to be one of the most challenging as well as satisfying careers. Sure not recommended for the weak hearted.
Do remember that digital design careers (e.g. web design, graphics, UI design, animation, VFX, multimedia) give better profits since they can be delivered anywhere in the world and hence may earn in dollars, resulting in better rewards for designers.
Some people are passionate about acting, they must understand that acting cannot provide jobs since this is an assignment based industry and one must fit the role. So, it could be better to enter this industry after acquiring a technical skill.

Though there are many certification courses, short term program, diploma programs are available for students who want to make a career in this field. But to have a deep understanding your son should go for full-fledged degree program. BBA in Digital Marketing would be the best bet for him as provides analysis of digital market environments, challenges and issues faced along with latest developments in digital market. It would help him to understand how to plan, implement, and measure the impact of digital strategies that are suited to today's customers and integrated with their traditional marketing and business goals. For this program he can look for UTM Shillong. This is very good university with great faculty, infrastructure and placements.
