Those who meet the GATE requirements may apply to the M.Tech program. For non-GATE students, admission will be determined by KIITEE score, with counseling to follow. Those who meet the GATE qualifying requirements and score 400 or higher are exempt from taking the entrance exam. The M.Tech programme costs INR 5.43 Lacs in total.

Candidates may also be those with B.Tech. equivalent credentials, such as AMIE or GRADE-IETE. Students with an M.Sc. or MCA degree are also eligible to apply, as long as they have a first-class degree.

Students wishing to apply for hostel have to pay an additional amount. NIT Durgapur does have mess service for which students need to pay a separate charge. The hostel fee for M.Tech students is INR 36,600. Students also have to pay a caution money for hostel service. Apart from the hostel charges, the tuition fee for M.Tech is INR 1.40 lakh. RGPV cutoff for the BTech CER course is based on JEE Main ranks followed by the JEE Main Counselling. As per the RGPV cutoff 2023, the Round 1 closing rank for BTech CSE stood closed at 122582 for the General All India category students.
