GATE Selection Process

GATE Computer Science and Information offers broader career opportunities - like M.Tech admissions at IITs, IISc, NITs, jobs at PSUs, private tech companies, academy teaching, etc. The GATE CS is highly competitive due to higher demand in every setor tech and engineering industry. 

On the other hand, GATE DA is a new specialised programme, ideal for careers in AI/ML, analytics, and research and development, but with limited seats. Here are some IITs that accept GATE DA scores -

• IIT Hyderabad - M.Tech in AI and Data Science
• IIT Mandi - M.Tech in Data Science
• IIT Bhilai
• IIT Madras offers M.Tech programs like AI, DBMS, and Mathematical Computing
• IIT Bombay offers specific programs like CMInDS, IEOR, GNR, and CTARA.

To get into FAANG companies using GATE scores, candidates need to enroll themselves in IITs or other premium institutions. But before that, let's understand what the FAANG companies. 

The FAANG companies are - Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google. Candidates cannot get into FAANG companies directly through GATE, yet you can prep yourself by following the tips and hacks below -

• Get used to coding and technical skills. 
• Master the understanding of core subjects like data science, artificial intelligence, computer networks, etc. 
• Achieve a good GATE score and take admission to top IITs, NITs, and IISc, as they have strong placement records. 

Apart from that, build strong concepts and focus on clearing fundamentals. Practice strong communication skills and optimise your resume. Look for interview tutorials of the companies to gain understanding of the work process. 

The job opportunities after the GATE are as follows -

• Candidates can pursue MTech/MSc/PhD from IISc Bangalore, IITs, NITs, IIITs and other reputed institutes.
• Candidates can pursue a postgraduate Diploma in industrial engineering/ manufacturing management or a Postgraduate Diploma in Project Management from NITIE Mumbai. 
• Find jobs in several Maharatna and Navratna PSUs and research organisations through GATE 2026 scores, such as IOCL, BHEL, PGCIL, BARC, etc. 
• Candidates can get into the teaching field, like professor, an assistant professor, and other reputed institutes. 
• Junior Research Fellow Assistant: BARC, ISRO, DRDO, etc.
• Scientist "C" grade jobs
• Senior Research Fellow Assistant: ISRO, BARC, CSIR, etc. 
• Multinational Firms also accept GATE scores for recruitment.

• Each PSU (like IOCL, ONGC, NTPC, BHEL) releases separate job notifications mentioning the required GATE paper and cutoff criteria and valid GATE scorecard details.
• Appear for the relevant GATE paper based on your field (e.g., ME, CE, EE, CH). A higher GATE score (650+) increases selection chances.
• After the GATE results, visit PSU's official websites and apply for vacancies by entering your GATE registration number.
• PSUs shortlist candidates based on GATE scores. Some conduct group discussions (GD) and personal interviews (PI). Some PSUs also conduct medical examination. 
• Based on GATE score + interview performance, candidates will receive job offers.
