If you cleared the cutoff with a bad score of 38 or 39 for the GATE examination. You can look for other options as mentioned below:

·       You can check the cutoff norms for a variety of institutions, as each institution has its own set of criteria for cutoff scores. For some institutions, even a cutoff of 38 and 29 could be considered for admissions. Make sure to do a complete analysis of the institution you are applying to and the cutoff score they accept.

·     Try applying for both top-ranked and lower-ranked institutions if you have a poor score to increase your chances of admission.

Indian Institute of Technology Ropar has offered several courses for students aspiring to get admission to the Masters Programme.  IIT Ropar accepts GATE COAP scores for admission to MTech programmes.

According to the IIT Ropar MTech cutoff 2024, M.Tech. in Computer Science Engineering and M.Tech. in Artificial Intelligence have become the most competitive specialisations, with a score of 740 in both for General AI category students.  Likewise, M.Tech. in Chemical Engineering was the least competitive course, with a Round 3 cutoff of 345 for General AI students.

IIT Guwahati will release the GATE 2026 exam pattern on the official website. The GATE 2025 exam had a total of 65 questions carrying 100 marks out of which 10 questions carrying a total of 15 marks were general aptitude. In the papers bearing the codes AE, AG, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, IN, ME, MN, MT, PI, TF and XE, the General Aptitude and Engineering Mathematics will carry around 28% of the total marks and the remaining 72% of the total marks is devoted to the subject of the paper. The two-paper combination in the GATE exam allows candidates to appear for exams in two different subjects during the same GATE testing window. You can choose your primary paper from the list of GATE disciplines offered. Then, you can select a secondary paper from the list of  approved combinations specified for your chosen primary paper. Opting for the two-paper combination can be advantageous if you have strong academic backgrounds in two related fields or if certain universities consider scores from both papers for admission purposes.

Registering with data pertaining to the highest GATE Score is advised. You will also need to give accurate GATE score information for the years 2022 through 2024 that remain at registration. Although you will only register once, your registration information will contain your previous two or one year's worth of GATE results.

No, in fact a Candidate should note that if he or she is not sure about an answer to a question, they should surely try to avoid that question since there is a negative marking in the GATE examination. It is not mandatory to solve all the 65 questions and one must be totally sure while answering a question and not rely on the luck of guessing.
