The allotment of hostel seats in Government College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu, is majorly based on availability. Preference would be given to students from outside the city. The hostel accommodation provided is shared and either a two- or three-student-per-room accommodation. The allotment process is pretty simple, but due to limited capacity, all may not get a hostel seat immediately.

Government College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu has below criteria for taking admissions to it's various courses:

B.E. / B.TechCandidate must have passed Hr. Sec. Part-II (12th/10+2) or an equivalent examination from a recognised statutory Board/University with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics as compulsory subjects having 45% marks for Open Merit Category candidates, including the Children of Defence Personnel, Para-Military Forces, Police Personnel of UT of J&K/Ladakh and candidates possessing outstanding proficiency in Sports and 40% marks for SC/ST/PSP/IB and other Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (RBA/ALC/OSC).
Candidate must have Domicile certificate of UT of Jammu & Kashmir or ST certificate issued by competent Authority of UT of Ladakh.
Candidates appearing/ appeared in 10+2 (12th Class) annual examination 2022 can also apply.
