No it is not mandatory to conduct group discussion and personnel interview to get admission in M.Com. Some colleges provide admission by seeing only the 60% criteria in graduation but some colleges conduct personnel interview to give admission in M.Com.

No If you fail in group discussion and written ability test after CAT exams then we cannot get seat in IIMs. Because you could not qualify the first two rounds. So that's why you cannot get a seat in IIMS. CAT Group Discussion GD is the main part of the selection process to get admission into one of the IIMs in India. Candidates who have scored high percentile among others in the CAT exam or any other MBA entrance exam are called for the selection process that consists of a Written Ability Test/Group Discussion and a Personal Interview.

Since I have cleared all the 3 for my joining procedure I would like to tell you step by step:
The day when you have been called, you will be asked to report to a class room (room number will be mentioned in the notice board in front with your application number).
There will be around 1015 students who will be reporting to the same class as yours. There will be 2 faculty members (evaluators) joining each class room with a stop watch and bell in their hand.
