Library Assistants provide clerical support for Library staff and students or customer service to patrons. Class 10 all subjects as per the scheme of studies; one year or more of work experience in a library; NSQF Level 5 qualification. Library assistants help librarians and teach them how to manage books, and library technicians organize library resources and make them available to users. Most libraries prefer to hire workers with a GED or high school Diploma, although libraries also hire HSS (high school students) for these positions. Library assistants receive most of their training on the job. Generally, no formal postsecondary training is expected. Familiarity with computers is helpful.

Step 2: Take a Bachelor's degree in any discipline. To take up a Bachelor's or master's qualification in Library Science you need to have a Bachelor's qualification in any discipline. Step 3: Take a Master's degree in Library and Information Science. MISc (Master of Library and Information Science) can be taken up directly after graduation in any discipline.
Exams to become a government librarian in India: In order to be a qualified librarian the students need to appear for the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test UGC NET State Eligibility Test (SET), and State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) exams. Then candidates will be eligible to receive the benefits under the 6th Pay Commission.
