For Information Technology, the cutoff must range between 250 and 675, for B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering, the cutoff must range between 540 and 637. IIIT Allahabad is a tier 1 institute and IIIT Lucknow is a tier 3 institute. The academic session of IIIT Lucknow was started in 2015 by the mentor Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad campus. No, direct admission is not available for the MTech course at IIIT Allahabad. The institute admits students based on a valid GATE entrance exam score, followed by the CCMT counselling process. 

Candidates taking admission to an MTech programme shall have a valid BE/BTech degree in a relevant discipline with at least 60% aggregate (55% for SC/ST) from a recognised university. The candidates wanting to pursue M.Tech from IIITA need to take the GATE exam. Candidates with a valid GATE score are called for the CCMT Counselling rounds based on cutoff marks. Further, based on performance in the counselling round, seat allotment is carried out.

The institute offers MTech courses in four specialisations, including Information Technology (IT), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Bioinformatics, Data Science and Analytics. There are 10 sub-specialisations offered under the IT and ECE specialisations as well. The seat intake varied from one M.Tech specialisation to another.
