Indian Institute of Information and Technology (IIIT), Dharwad was set up in 2015. It was established under Public-Private Partnership  (PPP) between the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), the Government of India, the Government of Karnataka and KEONICS. It is an 'Institute of National Importance' and aims to address the skill gap in information technology and henceforth, equip India to regain the global leadership role in IT. IIIT Dharwad is among the prestigious IIITs in India. The institute offers BTech across three specialisations. The admission is granted based on the JEE Main score. It also offers a PhD programme, admission to which is also entrance-based. IIIT Dharwad cutoff 2023 for the BTech (CSE) stood at 47555, which turned out to be the most competitive branch among the three. IIIT Dharwad BTech is a four-year programme offered with three specialisations in a full-time mode. The specialisations include Data Science and Artificial Intelligence,  Electronics and Communication Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering. IIIT Dharwad admission to the flagship BTech course is completely entrance-based. Candidates are selected through a national-level examination, i.e.,  JEE Main conducted by NTA. Final admission is subject to JoSAA/ CSAB counselling.
