Yes, while filling out the IISER Decision Making Form, it is absolutely necessary to pay the Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF). This fee is a crucial part of confirming your intent to accept the allotted seat, whether you choose the “Freeze” or “Float” option. Without paying the SAF, your seat will not be reserved, and you will be considered to have forfeited your claim to that allotment.

Moreover, non-payment of the SAF will automatically remove you from the ongoing counselling process, including eligibility for seat upgrades in future rounds. The SAF amount is later adjusted against your first semester tuition fees, so it is not an additional cost but rather an advance part-payment toward your academic expenses. Therefore, timely payment of the SAF, along with the submission of the decision form, is mandatory for securing admission or staying in the admission pool.

After you fill out the IISER Decision Making Form, the next steps depend on the option you selected—Freeze or Float:
1. If you selected Freeze:
a. Admission Confirmation
b. Your seat is considered final.
c. You will not be considered for further rounds.
2. Document Verification
a. You must upload scanned copies of the required documents via the portal.
b. Some IISERs may also ask for physical verification at the time of reporting.
c. Fee Payment
d. Pay the admission/semester fees within the given deadline to confirm your seat.
3. Reporting Instructions
a. Await an official email or update from your allotted IISER with reporting date, orientation schedule, and other onboarding details.
4. If you selected Float:
a. Seat is Temporarily Accepted
b. You retain your current seat but remain eligible for a higher-preference seat in the next counselling round.
c. Wait for the Next Allotment Round
d. If a better preference becomes available, your seat may be upgraded automatically.

Filling out the Decision Making Form during IISER counselling is crucial because it determines how your allotted seat is treated in future counselling rounds. Here's why it's important:
1. Confirms your interest in the allotted seat
After each round of seat allocation, you're given options such as:
Freeze: Accept the seat and don't want to participate in further rounds.
Float: Accept the seat for now but wish to be considered for better preferences in later rounds.
Your response in the Decision Making Form locks your intent, which IISERs use to manage seat allocation efficiently.

2. Failure to fill it may lead to seat cancellation
If you don't submit the form on time, your allotted seat may be automatically forfeited, and you may be excluded from further counselling rounds. This applies even if you were allotted your top choice.

Candidates who are applying for the IISER 2024 counselling process need to remember the following points before applying:

Note -1:

a) To be considered for counselling, filling up the IISER Preference Form is mandatory.
b) Please upload your Class XII marksheet or Class XII improvement marksheet and Caste certificate (in the Applicant Details section) if applicable and if you have not uploaded the same while filling up the Application Form.

Note-2:

a) All candidates with a score of 1 and above are awarded with an Overall Rank. Obtaining a rank does not ensure admission to IISERs. Only those candidates who submit the IISER Preference Form will be considered for admission to IISERs.
b) Category rank, if applicable and as reflected on the scorecard, is provisional subject to the verification of documents.

After the declaration of the IAT 2024 seat allotment list, candidates whose AIR rank lies in the released closing rank list will then have two options ie., accept or reject the seat. • Visit the IAT 2024 official website and log in to your registered account with the help of login credentials i.e., username and password.
• then click on the submit reference tab present on the left corner of the system.
• Next “Click Here to Submit Your Decision”
• You will see this kind of offer letter once you click “Click here to download the offer letter”. This is a sample offer letter.
• Click “DECISION MAKING” and then click “Click Here to View Allotted Seat”
• Click “Generate OTP” to go to the next page
• Enter the captcha to receive the OTP
• Check your registered mobile number and/or email ID for the OTP
• Validate the OTP received on your registered mobile number and/or email address 
• Once the OTP is validated successfully this pop-up will come
• After validating the OTP, you need to select one of the options. Candidates who received their 1st choice will not see the FLOAT (I WANT TO ACCEPT AND FLOAT MY SEAT PREFERENCE) option
• Please select the option carefully and click “Proceed”. Once submitted, NO FURTHER CHANGES WILL BE ALLOWED.

Candidates can go through the following information :

• If a candidate receives an admission offer, he/she can either choose to accept the seat or reject it. If a candidate rejects the offered seat or if no action is taken by the candidate before the deadline, then the candidate will not be able to participate in further rounds of counselling.
• If a candidate receives an offer, then to accept the seat offered, the student must pay a seat acceptance fee through online mode before the prescribed deadline. If the seat acceptance fee is not paid, the candidate will not be considered for admission in subsequent allocation rounds.

After accepting the offer and paying seat acceptance fee, the candidate can exercise two options:

• Candidate can FREEZE the seat (they will not participate in further rounds of counselling),
• Candidates can FLOAT  (they will participate in further rounds of counselling to get their higher preferences). The FLOAT option is activated by default for those who pay the seat acceptance fee. 

A student who has chosen to FLOAT will be considered for seat allocation againin the next round. If they are eligible to secure a seat in an IISER that is higher in their preference list than the currently accepted one, they will be offered that seat.
