IIT Kanpur - Indian Institute of Technology Admission Process

In order to apply for BS at IIT Kanpur, candidates are required to go through the official application of JEE Main followed by applying for JEE Advanced. A valid GATE score is required for admission to the M.Tech programme in the case of regular (non-sponsored) candidates. The requirement of GATE score is waived off for the candidates with MBBS degree as well as for the BTech graduates from IITs with a minimum overall CPI of 6.5 and a minimum CPI of 8.0 in the last two years in BTech. Additionally, A bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science (four-year programme) or a master's degree in Science with marks/ CPI not below the specified minimum is required for M.Tech admission.

Students who want admission to MTech at IIT Kanpur should have a bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science (4-year course) or must have completed their master's degree in Science with the specified marks. A relaxation of 5% aggregate or 0.5 CPI is offered to reserved category candidates. 

Admission to the BTech programme is completely entrance exam-based, i.e., based on JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced scores. Candidates seeking admission to BTech can not get admission to IIT Kanpur with only the scores of JEE Main. JEE Advanced followed by JoSAA counselling is the only selection criteria followed by the institute. However, to be eligible for the BTech programme, students are required to have passed their Class 12 with at least 75% aggregate with Science subjects (i.e., Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics). 

No, there is no interview round for M.Tech admission at IIT Kanpur. Admission offers for GATE-qualified candidates are displayed on the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP). Students must register at the COAP portal to view and accept their offers. Registration on COAP portal is free. Additionally, candidates are advised to download COAP 2022 information brochure. COAP Registration number is mandatory to apply for M.Tech at IIT Kanpur admission portal. Candidates who have not qualified GATE are communicated directly by the department via e-mail.
