This is how applicants can be admitted into the Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (IPGMER):

1. For MBBS Admission:
Eligibility: Pass in Plus Two with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology should qualify and at least 50% marks (relaxed for SC/ST/OBC) must be obtained.
NEET-UG: You need to clear the NEET-UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) test and get a score within the cutoff rank for IPGMER.
Counseling: Based on the NEET-UG results, those candidates qualify for counseling that is conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board (WBJEEB) or MCC for all-India quota seats.

2. For MD/MS: Postgraduate Studies Acquisition :-
Eligibility: Completion of the MBBS degree from a recognised institution and completion of a one-year internship is required of applicants.
NEET-PG: One must appear for the NEET-PG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate courses) and score well for eligibility for counseling.
Counseling: After the results of NEET-PG, candidates must go for counseling to have their seats allocated. Counseling is conducted by WBUHS or by MCC for the all-India quota seats.
Document Verification and Admission: After selection, candidates would undergo processing of documents and the admission process. Admission will be based on performance in NEET-UG/NEET-PG among other factors, and subsequently, candidates will have to go through the relevant counseling process to stand a chance of securing a seat in IPGMER.

The steps toward getting an entry in the MBBS programme at the Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (IPGMER) are as mentioned below:

Eligibility :-

- A person must pass 10+2 from a recognised institution, with the first three subjects being Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
- The candidate has to appear for NEET-UG exam (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate courses).

You should qualify for the NEET-UG with a competitive rank. Admission for MBBS is done on the basis of NEET-UG scores in IPGMER.
Counseling :-

As soon as the results of NEET-UG are out, one has to participate in the counseling process organized by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) or the relevant state authority for seats under the state quota. For All India quota seats, the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) does the same.

Document Verification :-

After selection, you need to complete and verify documents such as NEET scorecard, 12th-grade mark sheet, caste certificate (if applicable), and other required documents for verification.

Admission :-

The Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (IPGMER) does not grant a full scholarship to earn an MBBS or MD/MS in postgraduate medical courses. Students may obtain government-sponsored scholarships based on merit, financial need, or social category (SC/ST).

IPGMER does not sponsor individuals to study fully in higher education and there are a lot of scholarships offered from the state and central governments or financial assistance programs, like:

While these scholarships would reduce the total cost of education, there is generally no full support offered by IPGMER.

Post Graduate Medical Education and Research Institute, being one among the government institutions, does not offer specific scholarships to its students. The salary packages are also great. Specialists in postgraduate education (MD/MS) and specialists in branches like surgery, radiology, etc. earn higher salaries, especially in private practice or specialised health-care institutions. The pay of these specialists can vary anywhere from INR 1 Lacs to 3 Lacs or more per month, depending on experience, expertise, and the type of practice or institution in which they work.

In short, though IPGMER does not itself offer placement packages, it is noteworthy that students totally benefit in the terms of their career outlook and earnings when graduating and in their postgraduate periods.

The Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (IPGMER) places greater emphasis on the quality of education and clinical training rather than placement-oriented programs. Being a government-neighbor based institute, its placement procedure is very different from other regular degree programs.

The salary ranges for an MBBS graduate in government and private hospitals vary to a great extent. The earliest salary can be from ?40,000 to per month to ?80,000 per month depending on the hospital with the locations. A specialisation and experience can create bounds in income. 

Higher academic qualifications and qualifications are the basis of placements as compared to mere job placements.

Yet those who prefer to pursue with post graduation have a better potential in earnings, especially in private practice or specialised fields.
