Admission in BTech is purely based on Class 12 marks (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) through the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) Counselling process. Postgraduate (ME/MTech) accepts valid scores from the Common Engineering Entrance Test and Admission (CEETA-PG) or GATE exam.

Yes, Madras Institute of Technology follows seat reservation under Tamil Nadu state guidelines via the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) counselling. Anna University governs the seat matrix, and 7.5% of seats are strictly allocated for Tamil Nadu government school students. The remaining seats follow community reservation laws: 31% for Open Category (OC), 26.5% for Backward Classes (BC), 3.5% for Backward Class Muslims (BCM), 20% for Most Backward Classes/Denotified Communities (MBC/DNC), 15% for Scheduled Castes (SC), 3% for Scheduled Caste Arunthathiyars (SCA), and 1% for Scheduled Tribes (ST).
