At rank 40000, you will get some good colleges but you will have to compromise with the branches as you will get lower branches, but if you don't want to compromise and want to get upper branches or core branches then you will have to go for some lower colleges
The admission cutoffs are usually released by JoSAA on behalf of the colleges that are participating in the counseling process. According to the JoSAA given below are opening and closing ranks of some NITs ( open category only)
NIT Agartala
4,080- Opening rank
25,737- Closing rank
NIT Calicut
470- Opening rank
17,731- Closing rank
NIT Delhi
707- Opening rank
13,423- Closing rank
NIT Durgap

If your category rank (OBC Rank) is 3032, then the IITs available to you are:-
1] IIT Dhanbad - Geophysics (5 Y)
2] IIT BHU - Bio (5 Y)
3] IIT Kharagpur - Applied Geology (5 Y)
Unless you need the IIT Tag to flaunt in front of your relatives and unless you have some specific interest in these fields or unless you are planning to work hard to get a vertical branch transfer, go for NITs on the basis of your Mains rank or go for a drop. If your Open Rank is 3032, then you have a lot to choose from: - (The best options in no specific order, according to me are chosen as there are 50 and more branches open)
1] IIT Delhi Chemical (Dual Degree)
2]

As I myself got 185 marks in JEE Main and cracked JEE Advanced with a rank of 20k and went through JoSAA in 2017, I think I am the right person to answer this. First of all, I would like to say you that you cannot predict about the marks very accurately so rank should be the parameter. Coming to NITs, there are 3 tiers of them. Not all NITs are the same. If you want to get CSE in any of the tier 1 NIT, then your rank should be less than 2000 in JEE Main. If you want CSE in any of the tier 2 NITs, then your rank should not exceed 5000 in JEE Main. And if you just want an NIT tag (which you shouldn't as NIT tag is not any big tag), then

Hello. You are asking Difference between CRL and OBC ranking, right? Your CRL gives your rank considering all the students above you. OBC NCL rank tells your position in your category. In case of JEE Mains, in general your OBC rank will be 1/5 th of your CRL rank. If your crl is less than 2k you will benefitted here, your obc rank would be less than 1/5th of crl. If CRL is &get;15k, obc rank would be slightly greater than 1/5th of crl. (for a guy whose crl is 20200, his obc rank stood at 4.6k and that guy whose rank was 900 had obc rank less than 100). .

Your chances of getting IITs under the asked category are very low. The total number of seats in IITs in B.Tech courses are about 16234, and as per reservation, 2435 seats are reserved for asked category. So your rank should be below 2435.

In order to secure admission in IIITs through JEE Mains, the good score for the same can be around 85-90 percentile. At the same time, the candidates must feature among the top 25,000 rank range to get admission in popular IIITs. According to previous trends, candidates with a 1 - 25,000 rank range made it to the top IIITs. However, candidates securing ranks beyond 25,000 - 1,00,000 also made it to IIITs (newer IIITs/ regional-level IIITs). .

IIT (ISM) Dhanbad is a well established institution and it is far better than the new IITs. Placement records are quite well and the most important of all is that you will get good alumni base for being in an older institution. So, I recommend IIT (ISM) Dhanbad in comparison to the new IITs. That's what I have also chosen.

If you JEE Mains rank is 47000 in OBC then you get cannot the best IIT even if your CRL rank is 65000, you can't also get into NIT. I am not demotivating you but I have 2 to 3 suggestions for you,
1. Take drop and aim for IIT Bombay and it is achievable if you don't repeat your mistakes. (I will prefer join any online coaching)
2. Go for state level CET exams and go for state level best college.
3. Some private colleges such as Lovely Professional University and etc. accepts low score of JEE Mains also, it is a good option. Go for JAC counselling, state counselling accepting JEE Mains score. I am from Maharashtra, but I know that this y
