Students who attempted the JEE Main should start preparing for the JEE Advanced entrance examination if they want admission at IITs. Those who score above the 98th percentile in JEE Main session 2 should start to study for the JEE Advanced exam.
Students who get around the 95th and 98th percentile should attempt to solve more mock tests and previous year question papers to increase their chances of attaining a good enough rank in the JEE Advanced.

For those who are applying to the GD Goenka University BTech programme based on their JEE Main results, the timing is absolutely perfect and in sync with the rest of the country's results declaration and other processes. The JEE Main results are generally declared in the month of April every year, which is absolutely in line with the university's admission selection process just before the beginning of the academic year.

There's no fixed “marks” cutoff for Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology — it works on percentile/rank, and it changes every year.
Rough idea based on trends:
- CSE / COE → ~95–97+ percentile
- ENC / ECE → ~90–95 percentile
- Mechanical / Electrical → ~85–92 percentile
- Civil / Chemical / Biotech → ~70–85 percentile
Marks vary each paper, so focus on percentile. Also, Thapar has a board marks quota, so strong 12th % can help.
You don't need a perfect score — mid 80s–90s percentile can still get you in.
